Toppan Introduces UHF Wireless Smart Tag
February 09, 2006
The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported on February 2 that Toppan has developed a UHF-band wireless smart tag which can be read from longer distances than current offerings available on the market. The company's new offering can be read from six meters away, while existing products are limited to a few dozen centimeters. Shipments of samples of the tag, which measures 2cm by 8cm, are expected to start in February, and will have a price of between 40 and 45 Yen. To make them commercially viable, Toppan plans to lower prices to around 10 Yen, as it targets two billion Yen worth of sales in 2007.
